Growth of a beard can be an empowering journey for many transgender men & mascs, symbolizing identity, self-expression, confidence, and simply gender euphoria. However, it’s important to note that the process of cultivating facial hair varies widely from person to person, influenced by factors such as genetics, hormone therapy, personal care (and other external influences) and individual skin types. Here we’ll share our recommendations for various beard routines that include DR DHT’s beard growth products, tailored specifically for trans folks looking to enhance their facial hair growth. Whether you’re just starting out, or you’re looking to refine & optimize your routine to get the best facial hair your genetics and T will allow, there’s something here for everyone.
Here are our recommendations for routines that can help stimulate facial hair growth:
SIMPLE ROUTINES
EXAMPLE 1 (Daytime):
Wash your face and/or shower after waking up.
Apply Beard Grower Oil and rub it into the skin well.
Scoop a very small amount of Beard Grower Balm out, melt it in your fingers or palms, rub it directly into the hairs, and onto the skin in areas with no hair, or thinner hair.
Do this daily, as often as you can, or as often as makes sense for your skin type.
Consistency matters, but you aren’t expected to be perfect.
EXAMPLE 2 (Daytime & evening):
Wash your face and/or shower in the morning, or earlier in the day.
Scoop a very small amount of Beard Grower Balm out, melt it in your fingers or palms, rub it directly into the hairs, and onto the skin in areas with no hair, or thinner hair.
Wash your face and/or shower toward the end of the day.
Apply Beard Grower Oil (right after showering), rub it into the skin well. Applying it at least an hour before bed allows for it to absorb before you go and roll your face around on your pillows!
Do this daily, as often as you can, or as often as makes sense for your skin type.
Consistency matters, but you aren’t expected to be perfect.
EXAMPLE 3 (Anytime):
Wash your face and/or shower at some point in the day.
Apply Beard Grower Oil, rub it into the skin well.
Do this about every OTHER day.
Alternate with Balm on the days you don't use the oil.
Scoop a very small amount of Beard Grower Balm out, melt it in your fingers or palms, rub it directly into the hairs, and onto the skin in areas with no hair, or thinner hair.
Consistency matters, but you aren’t expected to be perfect.
(Optional: use a beard derma roller 1-3 days a week to further boost growth. Derma roll at a time when your face is freshly cleaned, and you won’t have any moisturizer, serums, or minoxidil on. For derma rolling instructions, tips & info, scroll to the bottom of this article.)
EXAMPLE 4 (Daytime):
Wash your face and/or shower after waking up.
Apply Beard Grower Oil and rub it into the skin well.
Do this daily, as often as you can, or as often as makes sense for your skin type.
Consistency matters, but you aren’t expected to be perfect.
EXAMPLE 5 (Evening):
Wash your face and/or shower toward the end of the day.
Apply Beard Grower Oil (right after showering), rub it into the skin well. Applying it at least an hour before bed allows for it to absorb before you go and roll your face around on your pillows!

COMPLEX ROUTINES
Adding beard growth products to your existing skincare routine
Already have a skincare routine and want to know where beard growth products fit into it? The order you apply products can impact both the growth effect and how your skin feels after.
EXAMPLE 6:
Do your established skincare routine, BUT do not apply moisturizer or leave-on products (yet) on the “beardzone” (i.e. areas you intend on applying the Beard Grower Oil.)
However, you can apply serums, oils, or moisturizers to the upper face (non-beardzones, at this time.)
Apply the Beard Grower Oil at this time. Make sure it is applied to virgin skin (i.e. NOT layered on top of moisturizers, serums etc.) Why? If it mixes in with your moisturizer, it can dilute it, therefore impacting its effects on hair growth.
Lots of folks find they don’t need to apply their moisturizer to the areas they apply the Beard Grower Oil to. This is because it's a lightweight absorbent oil that is similar to the skin's natural sebum.
Scoop a very small amount of Beard Grower Balm out, melt it in your fingers or palms, rub it directly into the hairs, and onto the skin in areas with no hair, or thinner hair.
If you still would like to apply your moisturizer to overlapping areas as the Beard Grower Oil, apply it preferably an hour or more (2, 3 hours, later in the day even) after the oil has been applied. But a bare minimum of 30 minutes is recommended.

INTEGRATING DR DHT BEARD PRODUCTS WITH MINOXIDIL USE FOR BEARD GROWTH
To preface: minoxidil ("minox") is a medication originally made for the heart. It has potentially dangerous side effects. It also is known to be very dangerous for pets, especially fatal to cats, even in small amounts. Please consult with a doctor before using minoxidil, regardless of if you have known health problems or not. Minoxidil is not recommended for use in folks with heart or blood related issues.
EXAMPLE 8:
Wash your face and/or shower.
Apply minoxidil, be sure it's rubbed down to the skin. Preferably an amount that doesn’t make your face appear incredibly wet, this varies from person to person.
Apply Beard Grower Oil and rub it into the skin, and/or Balm and rub it into the hairs, plus rub it into the skin in areas desiring growth.
Only apply the oil or balm AFTER applying minox.
You can apply the oil or balm immediately after minox, however, a better routine would be to apply the oil later in the day. Such as a couple hours before bed.
Either way, always wash your face before applying minoxidil, or applying the Beard Grower Oil or Balm.
(Optional: use a beard derma roller 1-3 days a week to further boost growth. Derma roll at a time when your face is freshly cleaned, and you won’t have any moisturizer, serums, or minoxidil on. For derma rolling instructions, tips & info, look below.)
USING A DERMA ROLLER TO HELP FURTHER STIMULATE FACIAL HAIR GROWTH
Almost any beard growth routine can benefit from the boost of a derma roller. A derma roller creates tiny holes in your skin (you can't see them, and no, it usually doesn't hurt.) This creates bloodflow in the skin, hairs need a good blood source in order to mature. Blood caries nutrients and hormones to the follicles.
Here is some important info to know when adding one into your routine.
ALWAYS:
Clean you derma roller with rubbing alcohol right before (& after) use.
If your roller gets gunky, clean it with soap/water and a new toothbrush. But still apply rubbing alc. before & after using it.
Wash your face well before rolling.
Roll your face BEFORE applying any product. This helps extend the life of your roller and keep it cleaner.
Give your skin a break between rolling sessions (at least 1 day in between.)
Stay consistent. Nothing works overnight.
Listen to your skin. If it doesn't like you applying product after rolling, then apply product later that day instead.
Use a derma roller with the proper length of teeth for beard growth (.5mm.)
NEVER:
Ignore the cleanliness of your roller.
Roll over acne.
Roll over wounds or active inflammation.
Forget to wash your face before rolling.
Apply minox right after rolling. (Apply it as early as 24 hours after.)
Skid the roller on your face (only move it in straight lines.)
Push so hard that it hurts or bleeds.
Roll your face if it has moisturizer or other products on it. Clean skin only!
Common questions:
Is once a day good enough for the Beard Grower Oil?
Yes, once a day is recommended. No need to overdo it. Depending on your routine & skin type, 5 or 6 days a week may work better for you. Experiment but be consistent.
What If I am acne-prone or have oily skin?
Be sure you always wash your face well before application, preferably with an effective facial cleanser and warm water. This frees up room in your skin for product absorption, and, of course, helps clear out skin oil to help prevent clogged pores.
Warm skin is also extra absorbent. Using warm water, or even a warm hair dryer (do not over do it though!) could help skin absorbency.
Though generally, this is not a big issue for folks with this skin type.
Apply a conservative (small) amount of Beard Grower Oil. This might be only 3 or 4 drops full face. It is lightweight and very absorbent, but with oily or acne-prone skin types it’s always good to make efforts to boost skin absorbency right before you apply it. AND apply an appropriate amount. It should not look shiny after you rub it in. If so, apply less. It typically fully absorbs within 1 to 3 hours. But should never look shiny/greasy on the skin.
What if I have sensitive skin, eczema or other skin issues on my face?
You may or may not be sensitive to the peppermint. I recommend you try out the smallest bottle of beard oil and see how your skin reacts. If you directly contact me, I might be able to put together a baby sample (tiny glass dropper bottle) for you! (Subject to if I have baby glass bottles in-stock.)
Can I use the Balm instead of the Oil?
You can, however, generally the oil is the better pick for growth out of the two, for a couple reasons; 1) The oil is appropriate for anyone at any stage, whether you have no facial hair, or already have much of a beard. 2) The ratios are slightly different. The oil is really all about growth and works down to the skin easily, the balm is about growth too, but it shares its priorities with being a product to help condition and lock in moisture on the literal hairs. Due to the texture, it’s slightly harder to work down to the skin.
CONCLUSION:
Remember, patience is key, as everyone’s journey is unique and influenced by various factors. Embrace each stage of your beard growth with pride, even the awkward stages. We ALL start somewhere. And don’t hesitate to experiment to find what works best for you. Remember, it’s okay to take days off. But keep in mind, growth doesn’t happen overnight. It’s an accumulation overtime. Keep on keepin' on, folks!
